Right now windows 7 is everywhere and every one is talking about it, as its one of the best operating systems produced by Microsoft, as the Vista failed to satisfied its users, Windows 7 will satisfy them. Because of the vista failure mostly people use XP, and everyone want to upgrade the XP into windows 7. But the problem is that microsoft didn’t provide the way to do that, you only have two options either first upgrade your XP into vista and then you will get the upgrade option for Windows 7 or Install Windows 7 on a formatted PC. So how you can upgrade your Windows XP into Windows 7 without losing your data and settings.
If you have a GBs of data, and you dont want to lose it, then you need to take a backup for your data as its a standard procedure to take the backup before doing any kind of upgrade. Secondly you need to have a installation DVD of Windows 7.
OK here it is how you can upgrade to windows 7 without losing the data or settings. Insert the DVD into your drive, the autorun for installation of Windows 7 will prompt, instead of starting the installation you need to browse the DVD. You can see all the folders, go into Support folder and then you will find another folder “migwiz” get into that folder and run the “migsetup.exe”.
Migsetup is a very easy to use transfer tool, from which you can transfer your data and settings to a brand new windows 7 installation. Appraise Microsoft for it because they developed this program. With Migsetup you will be able to migrate all user accounts, email, user data and pretty much everything else from Windows XP to Windows 7.
The only thing that the Easy Transfer tool cannot take care of are the third party programs that you have installed, so you’ll need to reinstall them again. This is a limitation imposed by Microsoft and it is, currently, not possible to upgrade from XP to Windows 7 and while keeping all the third party programs as it is.
Once you run the program it will give you two option to choose from, that where you want to save all your data and settings.
Its better to choose a external drive because on the network drive it will take quite some time to transfer the data. So once you selected the option, it will start transferring the backup.
Once backup transfer is complete, run the Windows 7 installation wizard, as you cannot select the option for upgrade windows, you can choose the customize option for the installation.
Once you installed the windows 7, connect the external drive to your PC and click on the backup file that you have taken through easy transfer tool, easy transfer tool will migrate all your data to your brand new windows 7 PC as it was on windows XP previously
